Desktop settings

Adjust reading, sound, and notifications for everyday work. Start with Appearance, then check the result in a real conversation.

Open settings

Use Settings in the app menu, or press ⌘ + , on macOS and Ctrl + , on Windows, then open Appearance. This is where you adjust theme, interface language, text size, output format, and sound feedback. Archives and the trash are managed under Conversation history.

Begin with a small set of changes: theme, text size, then sound. Return to a conversation after each change so you can judge its effect.

Adjust theme and reading size

SettingChoosing a valueWhat to check
ThemeTry light in bright surroundings, dark in dim surroundings, or system to follow your OSBody text, code, and secondary text remain readable
Theme presetsChoose a color scheme in addition to the light or dark themeSelected controls and notices are easy to distinguish
Text sizeStart at default and increase a step if neededLong paragraphs, the sidebar, and the composer remain comfortable
Reduced motionEnable it for animation sensitivity or fewer visual distractionsTransitions and expanded content feel comfortable

Text size has five presets: smallest, small, default, large, and largest, corresponding to 80%, 90%, 100%, 110%, and 130% text scaling. It changes text proportions across the desktop interface, beyond AI message text. It does not change response length or writing style.

Inspect a conversation containing paragraphs, lists, and code. Check readability first, then look for crowded long titles and controls. If a larger size leaves too little reading space, go back one step.

The glass effect depends on system support. If the panel reports that it is unavailable or failed to apply, investigate that notice. Theme and text size can still be adjusted independently.

Interface language and response language

Language in Appearance changes buttons, menus, and settings descriptions. Available choices are Chinese, English, Spanish, Portuguese, and Japanese.

AI response language is managed separately:

  • Request a language directly for the current task.
  • Save a lasting language preference in the conversation profile on the Memory page.
  • The profile language is normally a fallback when input language cannot be determined. Enabling “Always reply in this language” overrides input language.

For example, you can still ask questions in Chinese after choosing English menus. Changing the menu language does not require the AI to answer in English.

Set profile and language preferences

Choose output and message presentation

Output format offers a formatted preview (HTML) and Markdown. Choose HTML for page-like output with formatting, or Markdown for content you want to copy and edit as Markdown. This preference does not automatically turn any reply into a downloadable Word document, PDF, or other file.

Message style changes how messages are organized, with conversation and group options. Layout style changes the arrangement of the workspace interface and takes effect without restarting.

Compare the reading experience with the same request:

Organize these project updates. Begin with a summary, then list completed items and next steps.

Check whether the output format suits your purpose, then inspect message spacing and arrangement. To change wording, tone, or the structure of the content, use Profile and response style or state the requirement in the task.

Sound, notifications, and pet bubbles

Under Settings > Appearance > Sound feedback, choose:

OptionUseful when
OffYou are in a meeting, recording, or working quietly
Key eventsYou want sound only at important moments
Typing feedbackYou want sound feedback while content is being produced

Sound and system notification permission are separate. Sound being on does not mean the OS allows notification pop-ups, and sound being off does not establish that notification permission is disabled.

On macOS, if Appearance reports denied notification permission, follow its link to system settings, allow notifications, and return to EvoX to check the status. If the notification service is unavailable, address that error rather than repeatedly switching sound options.

Pet bubbles have a separate display switch. Turning them off or hiding the pet does not stop a task. Use the task's own stop control when you need to stop work.

Organize conversation history

Open Settings > Conversation history and choose an action for your purpose:

  • Set a conversation aside: archive it and restore it from the archive when needed.
  • Recover a deleted conversation: check the trash and select the conversation to restore.
  • Delete permanently: verify the conversation and the scope in the confirmation dialog before proceeding.
  • Restore session state: use the session snapshot entry. This is not a project-file backup and does not establish that workspace files have been restored.

Deleting chats, clearing profile fields, and managing memory entries are separate operations. To correct lasting background, open Memory management.

Check that a setting applied

Close Settings, reopen the same panel, and confirm the selected value. Then check the actual result in a conversation.

Text size is comfortable, but replies are too longChange reply preferences or the task request; text size does not control length
Notifications are missingCheck OS permission and panel errors separately from sound settings

Once reading preferences are ready, connect or select a model in Models and services.
