Hey, I'm Lena.
If you already use the Manus desktop app, ask whether your projects still behave as expected and whether Manus Studio improves a regular job. The September 2026 announcement emphasizes direct control over finished work, especially video and games. Check migration details before updating a machine you rely on.
What Changed From the Previous Desktop App
Manus says the desktop app becomes Manus Studio in 2.0. Its Manus 2.0 announcement describes a workspace that adds specialized tools when a project needs them. Cascade, a revised agent system, sits behind the release. For existing users, the practical question is what can now be edited directly after an AI first pass.
The earlier app introduced My Computer. The studio adds creative surfaces with hands-on controls. The release describes new capabilities, but offers no upgrade matrix proving that old tasks or projects reopen unchanged.
Review the New Everyday Work Surfaces
The studio presents documents, spreadsheets, PDFs, and slides alongside websites and code. Manus says these surfaces keep related work in one project and bring in specialist tools as needed. For someone who turns a draft into several formats, that is the everyday change to examine.
I would start with a familiar slide deck or spreadsheet. Can I correct the result where I previously had to issue another prompt or leave the app? The announcement gives no feature-by-feature editor comparison. A successful export does not prove the file remains fully editable.
For a spreadsheet, I would check whether a corrected value changes the downstream result I expect; for slides, whether the text and layout stay adjustable after export and reopening. Those small checks make the claimed everyday upgrade concrete without pretending every surface has the same controls.
Review of New Professional Creation Environments
Video Editor
Video Editor is the clearest change. Manus says it makes an initial cut, then exposes clips, images, text, motion graphics, and audio as timeline elements. You can replace music, insert your own shot, adjust an animation, preview, and export. Manus can continue from your edits. The useful difference is direct control over one moment without regenerating the whole video.
The release names short ads, tutorials, vlogs, and an Alchemy mode. I have not reproduced its quality claims. Before moving client work, check whether media, captions, timing, and export survive a small revision.
Game Dev
Game Dev starts from a playable template. Its Edit panel lets you watch the game, manage assets, adjust code, and change movement, scenes, or art. Manus says you can publish a game as a website. Multiplayer requires selecting and purchasing a Cloud Computer for its server; check current terms and price before enabling it.
I would first test a single-player template and one manual change, without hosting or other players.
Check Existing Project Compatibility
I could not verify a public guarantee that old desktop projects retain their editability, links, assets, or output after the Manus Studio 2.0 upgrade. Pick one representative project, record its structure and export, then open a copy in Studio. Compare the elements that matter: fonts, media, formulas, code, and final output.
Keep the original untouched until this comparison is complete. If Studio asks to convert a project, note the prompt and whether it offers a separate copy. I would also compare a newly created Studio project with the older one, since success on a new template cannot answer whether the old project migrated cleanly.
Keep a restorable copy of source files. Apple's Time Machine guidance covers Mac file backups; it says nothing about Manus format compatibility. For account-only projects, check export or duplication options. A successful sign-in is not a migration test.
Try One Incremental 2.0 Workflow
For a low-risk trial, use a duplicate of a small video project, or a disposable one if duplication is unavailable. Generate a first cut, replace one asset, adjust text, request one further change, then compare the export with the edit state. Record your app version, operating system, project type, and failures. This is a proposed test, not one I have run.
If the copy cannot reopen, an element becomes fixed, or export differs from preview, keep production on your established workflow and ask Manus about that project type.
Verify Update, Migration, and Rollback Boundaries
Before installing, compare your current build with the official installer. Check operating system, account access, project storage, and team rollout control. I found no public Manus Studio migration procedure or supported older-build reinstall path. A saved installer is not a promised rollback; newer project data or account services may prevent it.
If your team shares projects, test with a second account before treating the update as ready for everyone. Verify who can still open and edit the copied project, and whether a collaborator on the previous build sees the same result. I found no published cross-version collaboration guarantee.
Separate file recovery from app rollback. Microsoft's File History instructions cover restoring Windows files when configured; They do not restore Manus services or ensure an older app can read a newer Studio project. Ask Manus about your exact build before updating irreplaceable work.
FAQ
What minimum hardware does the current Studio installer require?
The current download page offers macOS for Apple Silicon and Windows. A Manus help article lists Apple Silicon Macs and Windows 10 or 11 for the desktop app, while noting possible macOS compatibility gaps. I did not find a current Studio-specific minimum for RAM, disk space, or GPU. Check the actual installer requirements for your build.
Is the macOS installer notarized and the Windows installer signed?
I did not find a published Studio-specific statement confirming either property. Obtain the installer through the official download page and inspect its signature on your device or ask Manus support before deployment.
Which interface languages and accessibility features are documented?
The pages reviewed do not provide a Studio-specific language list or an accessibility conformance statement. Localized help pages alone do not establish translated desktop controls. Test the exact interface and assistive features your team needs.
Can organization administrators defer the Studio update?
I could not verify a public administrator deferral control or update policy for Studio. Managed teams should confirm deployment and version-pinning options with Manus before a broad rollout.
Where does Manus publish versioned Studio release notes?
The 2.0 announcement and help center explain the launch, but I did not find a public, versioned Studio changelog. For a specific installer, request build-level release notes and known migration issues from Manus support.
